Prof (Dr) Sanghamitra Acharya is a Professor at the Centre of Social Medicine and Community Health, School of Social Sciences, JNU. She started her career in teaching with IIPS, Mumbai in the year 1990, and then joined JNU in the year 1998. Her areas of expertise are Public Health, Maternal & Child Health, Nutrition, Environment and resource utilization, Urbanisation and urban health, Gender & Morbidity, Youth and Elderly, Discrimination and exclusion in health care etc. She has held the position of Chairperson in the center twice for six years. She was visiting Professor with University of Philippines, Manila and Ball State University, Munice, Indiana, US.  Field-based research and action research is her passion. She is very proactive in matters of collaboration and networking with institutions working in the areas of health and nutrition.
