Dr Joykrushna Jena

Dr. Jena is the Director, ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) India. He has served as DDG (Fisheries Science) and DDG (Animal Science), ICAR. He has worked in different aspects of freshwater aquaculture and contributed to development of several technologies and research findings, viz., Technology of multiple cropping of carps with two crops in a year showing at least by 30% reduction of input expenditure; Development of technology of intensive carp culture with production levels of 10-15 tonnes/ha/year; Development of technology of treatment of domestic sewage through aquaculture, Cryopreservation of milt of both temperate and tropical fish species; Development of low input-based carp culture; Diversification of carp culture with medium carps; Researches on freshwater pearl culture including the aspects of tissue culture for invitro pearl production; Evaluation of the role of aeration for enhancing production under carp culture; Rearing of spawn at higher densities up to 30 million/ha and several studies relating to nursery rearing of fry and raising fingerlings in rearing systems; Development of technology of breeding of diversified carp species; Development of diet for nursery rearing of carp spawn; Genetic stock characterization of commercially important fishes:
Speciesconservation; and Fish genomics.
